4/17 Biology update and homework due 4/24

Hi folks,

This week we spent some time going over climate change and the basic biological biomes of our planet.  

Homework this week is to: 

Read pages 417 - 429 in the book. 

Do questions 4 - 17 on page 430 

ALSO answer the following questions.


1.  What is desertification? (Careful, it's really not directly related to deserts.)  What causes it?  How could the nitrogen cycle be effected by desertification? 

2.  What is over harvesting?  Explain how this can effect food webs.

3.  What is the definition of pollution that we covered in class?  Give me 3 different kinds of examples and their effects.  (In other words, something more than "throwing a can on the ground".)

4.  What are the 4 ecosystem services that we talked about in class?  Briefly explain each one.

5/1 Biology class and homework due 5/8

  Hi folks, We got into the plant kingdom today and got into some of the basic classifications and into the purposes of some plant parts.  We will get into this a bit deeper next week if we have time. I've include the pictures from this week's lecture as well.  You'll notice that I put the monocot vs dicot table on  there for you as well. There will be a quiz on archaea, bacteria and what we've covered so far in plants so be sure to spend some time with that.  Be sure to focus some time on the differences between monocot and dicot plants. For homework next week read pages 583-602. Do questions 1 - 18 on page 604.
